Storyville - India's Daughter My View
13:44:00Hello lovelies, hope you are well! Hope you managed to enjoy the weekend sunshine as it expected to rain this week *sigh*.
Today I am not going to blog about anything beauty, fashion or hair related but rather blog about something on a serious matter.
There was recently a documentary recently aired on BB4 about the brutal gang rape and murder of the 23 year old girl Joyti on a moving bus in Delhi. The documentary follows the story of the five rapists their defense lawyers, the rapists family as well as Joyti's family.
One of the rapists committed suicide, while three are on death row, still waiting for their sentence. and one of them is in a juvenile center and is sentenced to come out in December of this year.
The documentary focuses on the mindset of the rapists and how idiotic some of the views and their defense lawyers view are. One of the rapists Mukesh Singh states that it was Joyti's fault she got raped. "When being raped, she shouldn't fight back and should allow the rape".
If you think that is bad, you should hear what the defense lawyer said "If my daughter or sister engaged in pre-marital activities and disgraced herself and allowed herself to loose precedence and character by doing such things, I would most certainly take this daughter or sister to my farmhouse and in front of my whole family, I would put petrol on her and set her alight". May I just add she was not doing anything wrong. She was coming back from the movies with a friend, yes he was a boy. But it was celebration she was working ridiculous hours and studying at the same time, having 2-3 hours of sleep a day. So she deserved to go to the cinema with whoever she damn liked, in my honesty. I understand being indian, that looking good in the community is a huge thing, but in no way was she being disgraceful or doing anything wrong!
It's beyond shocking that there are views out there like this, and what is more terrible is that they are not challanged! It's all about how the women is to blame and that the men have no part to play in rape. This really annoys me! We as a society should be teaching boys that girls and women are not sexual objects and that they can't treat them like dirt. They should be treated with dignity and respect!
In India currently this documentary is banned. It should not be banned as it needs to raise awareness. It is the only way it can bring a light to how serious just some of these cases are. And without it being noticed it's never going to change! Something needs to be done, and it needs to be done NOW! It shouldn't be that something this disgusting and horrendous has to happen for change to happen!.
India's Daughter shows you exactly what the Indian government doesn't want you to see! That is why I urge everyone to watch it!
